On Thursday, Amazon introduced its refreshed Kindle lineup of e-book readers, and in a first, included one––called Colorsoft Signature Edition––with a coloured e-ink display. It boasts week-long battery life and costs $279.99.
The Kindle series now consists of four models: the first-ever coloured Kindle, a reimagined Kindle Scribe, the fastest Kindle Paperwhite yet, and a new entry-level Kindle.
The new entry-level Kindle comes in a new Matcha colour with a price tag of $109.99, and it has a non-reflective e-ink display with 300 ppi and 16 GB of storage.
The Kindle Paperwhite—the fastest according to the company—comes in two variants: the base model offering 16 GB of storage for $159.99, and the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition with 32 GB of storage for $199.99. Both feature water-resistant bodies with new colour options –– Raspberry Metallic, Jade Green Metallic, and Charcoal Metallic.
There is also a special Kindle Kids and Kindle Paperwhite Kids edition with unique cover designs such as Space Whale, Ocean Explorer, and Unicorn Valley.
The Kindle Scribe doubles as a digital notepad, similar to the Remarkable 2 (review), and costs $399.99. It is accompanied by a stylus, making it easy to take notes. As it includes an e-ink display, it can be used like a regular Kindle to read books.
All four Kindles are now available for pre-order in select markets like the US. The Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, and Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition will go on sale on October 30, while the Kindle Scribe will start shipping from December 4. As of now, there is no information on when these new models will be available in India.
